1

Flight from USA to Rome

Today: Your pilgrimage begins today as you depart on your overnight flight to Rome. Meals and drinks served aloft.

2

Rome

Today: We arrive in the beautiful picturesque city of Rome. We are greeted by our tour guide and board our coach bus for a panoramic tour of the “Eternal City”. We stop for lunch and then travel to your hotel to relax and settle in to the airport. If the time permits, there are convenient trains nearby for you to explore the splendor of Rome on your own.

Evening: Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel.

Rome / Papal Audience

Today: In the morning, we begin by attending a papal audience with Pope Francis. After the audience, we visit the Vatican-Museums to see centuries of beautiful artwork and artifacts. See the artwork of Michelangelo such as the Pieta and then visit the Sistine Chapel. We will explore St. Peter’s Basilica in its entire splendor. It is built over St. Peter’s tomb. Visit the Tomb of St. John Paul II in St. Sebastian’s Chapel. Travel to the Church of St. Peter’s Chains, which contains the statue of Moses by Michelangelo. Visit the Roman Forum, Arch of Titus and then proceed to tour the Coliseum. We drive through Rome and take in the sites on the way back to your hotel.

Rome

Today: We begin our day by traveling to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the largest church in Rome dedicated to the Blessed Mother. It contains a relic from the manger. From here, we visit the Scala Sancta, the stairs Christ climbed to stand before Pontius Pilate. Those who wish may climb the stairs, as is the custom, on their knees. Nearby we visit the Basilica of St. John Lateran which was once the residents for popes. It is here that St. Francis persuaded Pope Innocent III to give permission to begin the Franciscan Order. The Basilica of St. John Lateran, once the residence for former popes. We visit the Church of St. Paul Outside the Walls where the body of St. Paul is buried. it is the second largest Basilica in Rome and one of the five largest in the world.  At the Church of Domine Quo Vadis, is located on the spot where tradition says Saint Peter had a vision of the risen Christ while fleeing persecution in Rome. He convinced Peter to turn around and face crucifixion himself in Rome. Christ gave him the courage to follow him to martyrdom, as foretold in the Gospels. Finally, we visit the catacombs of St. Callixtus which are among the greatest and most important of Rome.  Here are buried early martyrs and popes of the early church.

Rome / Krakow

Today: We travel to Rome Airport for our flight to Krakow, Poland. We arrive in Krakow, pick up your luggage and are met at the arrivals section by our tour guide and bus driver. We board our bus for a panoramic tour of the city. Stop for lunch and then continue on to your hotel to check-in, settle in and relax.

Evening: Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel.

Krakow

Today: We enjoy a full day tour of Krakow which will include visits to the 14th century Gothic Wawel Castle and Cathedral named for the patron saints of Poland, St. Stanislaus and Wenceslaus. The cathedral was the coronation site of Polish monarchs and is where Karol Wojtyla was ordained to the priesthood and later was installed as the Archbishop of Krakow before becoming Pope John Paul II. The 14th century Bishop’s Palace is the traditional residence of Krakow’s bishops and was the former seat of Polish monarchs. Travel to St. Mary’s Church (Our Lady Assumed into Heaven), Collegium Maius and the Old Town Market Square with its lively street life. Then to the International Shrine of Spirituality which was concentrated by St. John Paul II on his last visit to Poland.

Krakow / Czestochowa / Krakow

Today: We will travel to Czestochowa, which has been the principal center of the Catholic religion in Poland for the last 600 years. Here we will tour of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa Shrine, which is the holiest pilgrimage site in Poland. It holds the four-foot-high icon painting displaying the Virgin Mary gesturing with her right hand toward Jesus as the source of salvation. After visiting the site and having mass at the Chapel of the Black Madonna we will drive to the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz for a brief visit, remembering St. Maximilian Kolbe before returning to Krakow.

Krakow

Today: This morning, we will visit the Sanctuary/Shrine of Divine Mercy where St. Faustina, the Apostle of Divine Mercy, lived and died. Pope John Paul II consecrated the Sanctuary during his visit to Poland in 2002. Visit the convent which has small church inside that contains a fragment of bone from the body of St.Faustina. Faustina was both beatified (April 18, 1993) and canonized (April 30, 2000) by Pope John Paul II. Enjoy a guided tour of the shrine and celebrate mass at the Chapel of Relics.  In the afternoon, we will drive to the Wieliczka Salt Mines. It is Europe’s oldest and longest running mine. It is one of the largest tourist attractions in Poland, registered on the UNESCO list and visited by over a million tourists every year. The mine’s attractions include dozens of statues and four chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners.

Krakow / Wadowice / Velebrad / Brno

Today: This morning, we depart for the Czech Republic stopping at Wadowice the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. Visit his family house which is now a museum and the church where Karol Wojtyla was baptized and attended mass as s child and later as a teenager. Continue on to Velehrad to visit the shrine of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, who brought Christianity to Czechs and other Slavic peoples. Proceed to Brno and check into our hotel.

Brno / Prague

Today: This morning, we will enjoy a guided tour of Brno including visits to the Town Hall, Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, and ending with a visit to the Mercy Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse. After mass, we will depart for Prague and check-in at our local hotel. The afternoon will be free for personal activities.

Prague

Today:We will enjoy a full day tour of Prague, starting with a visit to the Shrine of Loreto, one of the most important pilgrimage shrines in the Czech Republic. Then visit St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague Castle, and Mala Strana with its beautiful architectural buildings. Continue to the Church of St. Nicholas and then the Church of Our Lady Victorious where we will see the famous statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. After mass, we will continue across the Charles Bridge to visit the Old Town, considered one of the best preserved Old Towns in Europe with over 1,000 years of history. Visit the Old Town Square with its famous astronomical clock, which comes alive when the hour strikes and the twelve disciples appear to bless the crowd.

Prague / Svata Hora / Prague

Today: This morning, we will drive to Svata Hora which is the oldest and most important Marian shrine in the Czech Republic. It is here we will celebrate mass. This renowned place for pilgrimages consecrated to the Virgin Mary, Svata Hora (Holy Mountain) has been in its present-day form, towers high above the old mining town of Primbram, (about 30 miles south of Prague). Although the Infant Jesus of Prague may be more well-known outside the country, the shrine at Svata Hora dates back three centuries.  As you approach the hilltop, Svata Hora many spires and domes welcomes you to this holy place of devotion to Our Lady. It is a vast baroque complex of buildings with a multitude of towers with its severe external look and corner chapels are reminiscent of defensive bastions giving the impression of a fortress castle. A testament to its importance is the fact that more than a century ago Pope Pius X bestowed Svata Hora with the title of basilica minor, which is granted to only the most important Christian churches in the world. After mass we will tour the shrine and return to Prague with the remainder of the afternoon free.
