1

Flight  from USA to Rome

Today: Your pilgrimage begins today as you depart on your overnight flight to Rome. Meals and drinks served aloft.

2

Rome

Today: We arrive in the beautiful picturesque city of Rome. We are greeted by our tour guide and board our coach bus for a panoramic tour of the “Eternal City”. We stop for lunch and then travel to your hotel to relax and settle in. If the time permits, there are convenient trains nearby for you to explore the splendor of Rome on your own.

Evening: Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at your hotel in Rome.

Rome: Vatican City

Today: In the morning, we begin by attending a papal audience with Pope Francis. After the audience, we visit the Vatican-Museums to see centuries of beautiful artwork and artifacts. See the artwork of Michelangelo such as the Pieta and then visit the Sistine Chapel. We will explore St. Peter’s Basilica in its entire splendor. It is built over St. Peter’s tomb. Visit the Tomb of St. John Paul II in St. Sebastian’s Chapel. Travel to the Church of St. Peter’s Chains, which contains the statue of Moses by Michelangelo. Visit the Roman Forum, Arch of Titus and then proceed to tour the Coliseum. We drive through Rome and take in the sites on the way back to your hotel.

Rome

Today: We begin our day by traveling to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the largest church in Rome dedicated to the Blessed Mother. It contains a relic from the manger. From here, we visit the Scala Sancta, the stairs Christ climbed to stand before Pontius Pilate. Those who wish may climb the stairs, as is the custom, on their knees. Nearby we visit the Basilica of St. John Lateran which was once the residents for popes. It is here that St. Francis persuaded Pope Innocent III to give permission to begin the Franciscan Order. We visit the Church of St. Paul Outside the Walls where the body of St. Paul is buried. It is the second largest Basilica in Rome and one of the five largest in the world. At the Church of Domine Quo Vadis, is located the spot where tradition says Saint Peter had a vision of the risen Christ while fleeing persecution in Rome. He convinced Peter to turn around and face crucifixion himself in Rome. Christ gave him the courage to follow him to martyrdom, as foretold in the Gospels. Finally, we visit the catacombs of St. Callixtus which are among the greatest and most important of Rome. Here are buried early martyrs and popes of the early church.

Rome / San Giovanni Rotondo / Cave of St. Michael

Today: We celebrate Mass at the tomb of St. Padre Pio and take a tour of the sanctuary. We see the old church and the crucifix before which he received the stigmata in 1918. We see the confessional where Padre Pio directed people on their path. We stand and pray before St. Padre Pio’s incorrupt body. Moving on, we have a stunning view of the Gargano Peninsula as we travel to the Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel. Saints and popes and people from all over have come to this grotto looking for the protection and intercession of St. Michael.

San Giovanni Rotondo / Assisi / Florence

Today: Departing San Giovanni Rotondo we make our way to Assisi, home to St. Francis of Assisi. We visit the Basilica housing the Saint’s tomb, and afterwards enjoy a guided tour of the Basilica and the town. After Mass, there is free time to explore and shop before leaving for Florence.

Florence

Today: Your full day in Florence begins with breakfast and a guided tour. The tour includes the Church of the Holy Cross, the Santa Croce where many nobles are buried such as Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli. This tour also includes a walking portion through the Piazza Signorina, Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, and Republic Square, to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. This Cathedral is an iconic piece of architecture of the City of Florence. It was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi in the 13th century. After the tour, your group will enjoy lunch on your own followed by a visit to L’Accademia, the well-known art gallery. At this gallery, you will have the opportunity to view the work from artists such as Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Pontormo and the ever famous sculpture by Michelangelo, David. During this time in the museum, your group will have the opportunity to enjoy free time to explore the museum and later, the city.

Florence / Padua / Milan

Today: We leave Florence and proceeds to the town of Padua, where we visit the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua and celebrate Mass. From here, we continue to City of Venice, known as the ‘The Queen of the Adriatic’.

Evening: Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at your hotel in Venice.

Venice / Verona / Milan

Today: Venice is known as ‘The Queen of the Adriatic’. There is a total absence of wheeled transport which makes Venice the most charming and poetic city in the world. Our visit begins at the Basilica of St. Mark, adorned with golden mosaics and religious icon. It was built to honor the body of St. Mark brought from Alexandria in Egypt. After Mass, we visit the Piazza di San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale (the palace of the Doge, the political leader of the Republic of Venice). Leaving Venice (time permitting), our drive takes us to Verona. Among the cities of Venetia it is second only to Venice for its monuments. We take a panoramic tour of the city before departing for Milan.

Arrived to Milan

Today: We proceed downtown to see DaVinci complete Cenacolo (The Last Supper). Then on to visit the Duomo, “the most magnificent Gothic building in Northern Italy”. Tour the Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio and the visit the Tomb of St. Ambrose. We will travel to the Church Santa Maria delle Grazie and attend/celebrate Mass. Stop at Castel Sforzesco to see history and style combined with Milanese flair. Nearby is the famous La Scala Opera House with its ornate stage that glistens under crystal chandeliers. Gaze down at the orchestra pit from the public box, and take a quick look inside La Scala Museum. Visit the Milan Cathedral (St. Mary of the Nativity). The rest of the day is free to visit the stores and browse the Forza boutiques. Stroll through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele arcade with its luxury outlets to shop and also admire the chic goods on display.

Today: This morning we will transfer to the airport to catch our return flight home.
